Alan C. Shedd, P.E., CEM is an engineer with Jackson EMC’s Commercial and Industrial Marketing Group. He holds a degree in Engineering Science and Mechanics with an Energy Engineering Certificate from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a registered professional Mechanical Engineer and Certified Energy Manager. His professional experience includes commercial and institutional energy management, energy analysis, and HVAC system design in the U.S. and Europe. Experience includes air-, water- and geothermal-heat pumps, unitary and central chiller systems, and waste heat recovery. Mr. Shedd also conducts professional education programs and evaluations of energy utilization, HVAC, service water heating and environmental technology issues. He works with local and state student groups to develop electric vehicles and bring EVs into the classroom. Working with Green Power EMC’s R&D committee, he helped start the Georgia Sun Power for Schools program that helps students learn about solar photovoltaic systems. He is co-author of several publications and technical papers on water heating, end-use technologies, energy conservation, and analysis. He contributed materials used in design manuals prepared by the Electric Power Research Institute, US Army and Navy, the American Society of Plumbing Engineers, and the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Mr. Shedd co-developed HOTCALC and WATSMPL, microcomputer based commercial water heating simulation tools. He serves on the Cooperative Research Network’s Renewables and Distributed Generation Advisory Group. He serves on standards and technical committees with ASHRAE. When he’s not doing engineering stuff, he likes to race sailboats. |
