Nancy Cobb was sworn in as the Executive Director of the OneGeorgia Authority on July 23, 2002 and reappointed by Governor Sonny Perdue on October 1, 2003. The OneGeorgia Authority, created in October 2000, targets assistance to Georgia’s rural areas and its most economically distressed communities utilizing one-third of the state’s tobacco settlement funds. The authority expects to receive $1.6 billion over the course of the twenty-five year settlement. Prior to her initial appointment Nancy served as interim Executive Director of the Authority for nine months. Coming on board shortly after start-up as Finance Officer, she has been an integral part of the policies, program development and operations of the Authority. Nancy was born and raised on a diversified farm in Jenkins County. She was educated in the public schools in Millen and holds an A.S. degree from Middle Georgia College and a BBA in Accounting from Georgia State College and University. She is a Certified Governmental Finance Officer and is a Certified Public Accountant candidate, having passed all testing requirements. Nancy has developed a diverse background in financial/accounting and rural economic development through her professional career in both the public and private sector. She was Finance Officer and Grant Administrator for nearly a decade in her hometown of Millen prior to moving to Dublin in 1983. She joined Freeman, Daniel, Tydings & Company as an accountant, resigning in late 1991 to accept the position of Controller for Cellular Plus, an early leader in rural Georgia for high-tech communications. Prior to joining the OneGeorgia Authority, Nancy served as Corporate Accounting Manager for Dublin Construction Company, an established leader in commercial and industrial construction for over 55 years in the Southeastern United States. She serves on the Board of Trustees for Southern Growth Policies Board, Georgia Rural Development Council and is a member of Georgia Economic Developers Association. In her community, Nancy is a graduate of the Dublin-Laurens Leadership program, Chair of the Office Technologies Advisory Committee for Heart of Georgia Technical College, a member of Dublin Rotary Club and a member of the Dublin Service League. She is an active member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church and serves on the Finance Committee. Nancy and her husband, Dr. Robert Cobb, have three children. |
