Tifton, Georgia
Just in time for the start of the new school year, the organizers of
the Aug 1-3, Georgia BioEnergy Conference 2006 will host a free
workshop on “Teaching Renewable Energy Awareness in Schools”.
The keynote speaker and workshop moderator will be Jim Bosch,
National Renewable Energy Lab’s Education Outreach Coordinator.
Workshop topics will include:
Renewable Energy Awareness in Schools
Keynote speakers and workshop moderators, Jim Bosch and Rick Shin of the National Renewable Energy Lab in Golden, CO will introduce to teachers many
renewable energy forms—but emphasize bioenergy as a future energy source (as it
relates to Georgia, the nation and world). Renewable energy from the teacher’s perspective will be their focus. Most of these would be hands-on lessons that the teachers could implement in the classroom. They will discuss the NREL Education
programs for Interns, Pre-service Teachers and the Laboratory Science Teacher
Development (LSTPD) Program.
Area school teachers will join Jim and Rick in
sharing their experiences in teaching renewable energy awareness.
Renewable Energy Initiatives in Georgia
Researchers from Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia and USDA will
give an overview of ongoing energy research in the state. Representatives
from area businesses using or creating renewable energy will describe the
benefits of moving beyond fossil fuels.
Into the Classroom – Renewable Energy Demonstrations
Workshop participants will engage in hands-on demonstrations of solar,
wind, wave, and bioenergy experiments to take back to the classroom.
